The evolution from stand-alone physical collections to a global electronic network of information has required foresight and adaptability on the part of libraries and information centers. To perform proactively and keep up with fast-changing technology, libraries and information centers must constantly reconfigure themselves in anticipation of future technological change. KEVRIC understands this need and how to support its clients in achieving it. Our personnel have experience designing and maintaining databases for efficient information storage, retrieval, and data security; advising clients on building collections; and developing long-range acquisition plans and budgets based on the client's needs and resources. As a reflection of the expanded role of the traditional librarian, KEVRIC has designated our librarians as "technical information specialists" in the GSA Position Description Catalog .
In addition to these basic and specialized operations, management, and information retrieval services, the KEVRIC staff also have experience in personnel supervision and working on the client site directly with client personnel. KEVRIC staff actively assist clients with outreach, publicizing available library and resource center services in a variety of ways.
KEVRIC's experience in library management and operations includes performing all management and operations tasks for the Library and Information Resource Center of the DHHS Administration for Children and Families, including acquisitions, reference services, and LEXIS/NEXIS searches; shelving and reshelving all new materials and all materials used by patrons at the National Library of Medicine (NLM); performing associated stack maintenance tasks for NLM, such as shelf reading and shifting; and performing associated statistical measures for NLM, such as computing daily and monthly totals.
KEVRIC has access to vast and varied information sources. Electronic sources include commercial vendors such as DIALOG; dial-up access to local organizations such as the Washington Research Library Consortium; Internet access to agency catalogues and worldwide university holdings through the Internet; and information on virtually all subjects through the Web.
Additionally, KEVRIC's information staff have access to the rich array of collections and resources available in the metropolitan Washington area, including the Library of Congress; Government agency collections, such as those of the Environmental Protection Agency; the National Libraries of Agriculture and Medicine; and collections from area universities. All of these constitute a vast pool of information, which KEVRIC's experienced information researchers can put to the best possible use for our clients. |
